I just felt like making a very quick cool project so when I saw this serial fingerprint reader module for arduino on eBay I knew I had to get one to play with. In this video I demo my modded fingerprint sensor used as a windows login/logout USB security device. I removed the original monochromatic green LED, sanded down a 5050 RGB LED to fit, and then stuffed it inside where the original LED went. Now my sensor can light up in over 16 billion colors for feedback. With this I added a cool fading animation and software to allow my arduino to act as a keyboard to type passwords or put the computer to sleep with a simple touch of the correct finger. Now I just need to miniaturize the circuitry and 3D print a custom case.
I’ve posted a link for Ebay purchase referrals. If you use the link below then I get a small kickback from your purchase (it will cost you nothing, I just get paid for referring customers).
